the small things

The small things in life are some of the things that make it the most beautiful.

my grandma's hummel collection
bunting banners
iced coffee in a jar
old movies
lace
driving the same route you usually do and finding something different each time
breakfast in bed
the railing outside windows (especially in paris)

The small things are wonderful to look for in life, but on a more serious note, I was thinking about the small things we do or say after I read an email from someone recently. In revising what they said, sometimes we think nobody is watching and nobody will notice. Or our decisions, no matter how small, won’t matter. But they do matter. Those decisions are dictating the next step you will be able to take. Sometimes the “small things” matter the most. They seem to determine our larger portion. The tragedy is that they are small and we often overlook them or begin to believe that they cannot possibly matter.

In trying times when there's temptation to take “shortcuts" to get where we need to go, even if they seem small and meaningless, we must hold firm and do the right thing.

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong
1 Corinthians 16:13

So when it comes to your life, try not to overlook the "small things". No matter if it's making time for yourself and watching your favorite movie for the millionth time, or how you treat others, such as a coworker that is difficult to work with.

So beautiful and so true. I believe too that the small things are what life so perfect. They turn the dull into spectular and the minimal into extrodinary.

What a beautiful post. Small things most definitely keep me going too! I love nature and just smelling a candle make me happy. And of course just being reminded how much God loves me everyday. Thanks for the simple reminder as well. :)

What a thoughtful post. The small things, whether happy discoveries or ordinary-seeming interactions, can be things of much bigger importance when they are noticed by someone.

I'm currently laid up recovering from an injury, and the small things have become amplified. Visits from friends, lack of inquiry from a few colleagues... any number of things are viewed under a microscope by me if I don't keep myself busy. But that is life? Small things can become big distractions.

You're so right - the small things are, what counts, the moments of inner presence, when we are there to see ... Have a lovely start to your week!

definitely yes!

i used to be a runner. i take things as fast as i can. but i noticed there's no fulfillment from rushing and i failed to take light from the small details that make the whole.

now, i'm giving each tiny speck the significance it deserves. and i found out how fortunate i am. :)

Great reminder, Shawna! I really think it is all about the little things in life - they all add up in a big way! Love that Corinthians quote :) I hope you're having a great week so far. I got food poisoning on Sunday night and I'm just starting to be able to function normally this afternoon. I have to say that feeling that sick for so many hours really made me step back and remind myself to put my energy into things that really matter and stop draining my energy on things that really don't. Also, not to take things (like normal energy levels) for granted! ;) xo

You are so right! God sees and knows all..even the small things. We can rest knowing that. We all need to be on guard, and be firm in the faith, be strong in the Lord! :)

Beautiful images and thoughts here today. Thanks for sharing!

Such a beautiful sentiment and I am a firm believer in "the little things". I took myself to the movies to see a very old movie the other day - very simple - but oh how good it was for the soul!

I am now going off to enjoy some tea in a jar.

May your weekend be full of "little things", Stephie x

I agree, even the smallest things you say or do can make a difference in someone's day. I really love just saying, "Have a Good Day" when I'm at the store in the check out line, I see the biggest smiles on the cash registers faces just because someone was nice to them. Or when I used to take the city bus and tell the bus driver "Have a Great Day" they were so surprised that someone was kind to them. Its the little things! xoxo

Have an AWESOME WEEKEND LOVE!
