guest post from the citybirds nest!

I am so excited today because Cristie from the citybirds nest is guest posting here! So please give a warm welcome to this special lady. I admire her work and love her paintings and jewelry! When you're done reading, don't forget to check out her shop. She is such a talented individual with a sweet and kind spirit and I am so happy to know her! :)

hi poppy and sunshine readers! a big thanks to the lovely shawna for having me here on her beautiful and inspirational blog! shawna has such great taste and does such an amazing job putting collections of pictures together and i love the inspiration that oozes from her blog, so thank you again for letting me be a part of that!

let me start by introducing myself... i'm cb the writing and lady behind the pictures of the citybirds nest and the crafty lady of citybirds! i wanted to share with shawna's readers my little crafting world.

i have always been an artistic. i grew up with a mother who is an amazing artist who has shaped me into the artist i am today. so being artistic is in my blood and a huge part of who i am. i love it, breath it and if i could eat it i would!

over the years my art has changed and grown but i never have strayed far from color. it is what moves me and speaks to me as an artist. one of my favorite things is painting and experimenting with color combination and manipulating the color on my palette.

i opened up my first etsy store a couple of years ago and my retro chicks were the first paintings that i started to produce. i love how fun  they are and the bright vibrant color combinations. they are just so darn happy!

i just started doing water color illustrations again and i love creating them and giggling at them when they are complete. i love the personalities that shine through with just the simple stroke of my quill.

i also LOVE to make jewelry. i am a jewelry hoarder by nature so making jewelry came a bit naturally. i make earrings and necklaces using hand painted porcelain owls with a combination of leather and i love adding a bit of a surprise to them like silver pistol charms.

i am in the midst of coming up with a bit more mature line that is inspired by nature and the inner hippie in me. i can't wait to share when they are ready!

thanks so again shawna for having me, you rock!

xo,
cb

I ♥ Urban Outfitters

Especially their sale section because I always end up finding what I had been looking for at full price a few weeks earlier. I am so excited that I came across this adorable umbrella jewelry holder that I had been eyeing for quite some time. The best part is? It was only $3! I snatched it up right away. Oh how I love sales.

And I am also super excited about finding the perfect shade of teal nail polish. I have been looking for this color nail polish for a long time. Whenever I come across something like it, it has a shimmer to it, while I wanted it to be flat. So here we go!

Just thought I'd share what helped make my weekend a little extra special. I hope everyone is getting through the new work week alright!

Vintage Ladybugs

I visited my grandma the other day and we had tea together. I can't think of many things that are better in life than that. These are the times that she always tells me her tips and tricks in life. I love when she goes through all her jewelry and shows me all her treasures and tells me the stories behind them.

This time she surprised me with these adorable vintage ladybug earrings! I think they are so cute and I just had to share them because it is so rare that I come across something vintage!

Another Rainy Day

It was a rainy day today.

It is currently snowing.

And it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow.

I guess that is why I am missing spring weather. I normally love rain, but I'm missing my spring/summer clothes! And I guess that is also why these pieces of jewelry stood out to me...they are so cheery.

Robin's Nest Necklace.

Carved Blue Birdie Necklace.

The Lucky Girl Lariat Necklace. It has an art nouveau quality about it, which I love.

Spring Fling Earrings.

Nest and Pearls Hair Comb.

These may look a little more fall, but these Leaf and Locket Earrings too cute!

I recently bought these shorts and this top from Urban Outfitters (disappointed it's too cold to wear right now!), but I would like to finish the outfit with these shoes from Gap and this locket (I know, I can't seem to get away from nautical things!).

Now this is the outfit I would like! This top from Anthropologie would look great with these Urban Outfitters Ankle Cigarette Jeans. The ruffles on these Unplugged Dumbo flats from Piperlime mimic the top and this necklace adds a little golden sparkle. Perfect for those in-between days when it's not too hot and not too cold. ♥

Make Pie Not War

Adorable jewelry that will make your day a little happier.

Jolie Fleur

Sparrow

They flew in my beauty

Turquoise

BFFs por vida

I love each piece so much I could plaster pictures all over this post, but I'll keep it minimal, so you must go check out the rest here!

Ahoy...

When you have to tell everyone you come into contact with that you are in a very bad mood and they better not mess with you today...then you know you are having a bad day. And for some reason that is how my day was. Why today? I have no idea. My perfume didn't even spray, it just drizzled all over my hand. It has never done that before. Just one of those days...

But these little beauties cheer me up and beckon summer days at the beach. I wish for...

Can't you imagine walking along the shore with this Well-Buttoned Tank?

...and it would not be complete without this.

Anchors away...this ring is so cute!

I am sure tomorrow will be a good day :)
